What is Important in a TMS Device

When choosing a TMS device it is important to check for these essential features.
  • Cooling System - Does the TMS device have a liquid based cooling system? These are the best cooling systems and allow for the machine to run efficiently and quietly without interruption.
  • Patient Database - It is important to keep track of each patients' treatment status and record their improvement.
  • No Per Session Cost - Make sure the manufacturer does not charge you a fee every time you use the machine!
  • Support and Warranty - Ensure you have a reliable provider who stands by their warranty. Do they answer the phone when you call? Can they offer quick repairs to ensure your practice is always up and running?

The first TMS machines date back all the way to 1985. TMS machines were under strict supervision and were not cleared or approved by the FDA for treatment for any conditions. It was only until 2008 that the FDA cleared TMS machines for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Flash forward to the present day. We now see that TMS machines are cleared for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), OCD, and anxiety disorder. Several TMS machines are available to purchase, each having its own qualities mentioned in the device comparison chart.
